‘Language is vital for national identity,’ asserts Dr Visier Sanyü

54th Tenyidie annual seminar in Kohima commences

A two-day long 54th Tenyidie annual seminar under the aegis of Ura Academy Kohima and Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Meriema with the theme “Language: The root of our existence” commenced today at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima.

Talking on the seminar theme, Dr Visier Sanyü, member of Forum for Naga Reconciliation and President, Peace Initiatives in North East India, acknowledged Ura Academy for promoting Tenyidie language and urged them to scale up the same.

“Language is the foundation of civilization,” he told the gathering. Stating that no nation exists without a language, he said “Language is vital for national identity.” Stating that language need not be a purist for language to grow, he emphasised on the need to make Tenyidie simple and easy language to speak and more understandable.

He underscored the need to pursue in-depth study of Tenyidie in University level. On the other hand, Dr Sanyü stressed on the need to make Tenyidie (MIL) subject easier from primary to Class X to facilitate quick learning and good academic performance.

At present, the Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University offers two-year Post Graduate course, Ph.D. programme and offers 6 months Certificate Course in Tenyidie, 1 year PG Diploma Course in Tenyidie, 3 months Tenyidie Diploma Course for International Students and 1-month Crash Course in Spoken Tenyidie.

Earlier, Ura Academy President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu released two books “U Tsiepfumia Nanyiijako” by Vilhousielie Lisimvü/D Kuolie and “U Pfutsanuo Naweu/ Khusora” by Khrinyio Leruo.

The inaugural function was chaired by Ura Academy Vice President Daso Paphino while Ura Academy Secretary General Dr D Kuolie delivered welcome address.

‘Let us promote Tenyidie’
Addressing the seminar as the guest of honour, Chakhesang Public Organization President, Vezuhu Keyho stressed on the need to promote Tenyidie both within and beyond the state. “Let us promote Tenyidie,” he said.

Tenyidie is a language spoken by Tenyimia group of Nagas (five tribes each from Nagaland and Manipur). Keyho thanked the pioneers of Ura Academy and Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu for developing Tenyidie thus far. He also expressed happiness over the introduction of Ph.D. programme in Nagaland University and stressed on the need to develop more.

Further, he called upon Tenyimia to uphold the spirit of unity and integrity. “Let us stand for truth and love one another,” he said adding that the feeling of oneness will exist where there is semblance of love among the community.

Students honoured with meritorious award
Four students have been conferred with meritorious award today for their outstanding performance in Tenyidie (MIL) subject, music in HSLC, HSSLC Exam 2024 and BA (Tenyidie Honours) course.

Rüzhükhrie Sekhose Award 2024 have been conferred to Khriesanuo Zhale of Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Kohima for securing the highest mark in Tenyidie (MIL) subject in Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination conducted by Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) 2024.

Ura Academy instituted this award in honour of late Rüzhükhrie Sekhose, a pioneer of development of Tenyidie whose contribution in Tenyidie literature stands a foundation for promotion of Tenyidie in the field of education.

Dr Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award 2024 has been conferred to Mengunuo Zatsu of Northfield Khikha, Kohima for securing the highest mark in Tenyidie (MIL) subject in High School Leaving Certificate exam 2024, conducted by NBSE. This award was instituted by Ura Academy in honour of late Dr Neilhouzhü Kire Angami, the first matriculate among Nagas, a pioneer of higher education in Nagaland.

Kechaneiu Huozha of Northfield Khikha Kohima has been conferred with Nini Vinguriaü Lungalang Award 2024 for securing the highest mark in Music in HSSLC exam conducted by NBSE.

Ura Academy instituted this award in honour of late Nini Vinguriaü Lungalang, the first recipient of Licentiate Trinity College of Music, London (LTCL) among Nagas and a pioneer of music in Naga society.

Kikruseno Sirie of Oriental College Kohima received A Kevichüsa Award 2024 for securing the highest mark in BA (Tenyidie Honours) course in the Bachelor of Art Examination conducted by Nagaland University in 2024. Ura Academy instituted this award in honour of late A Kevichüsa, the first grade among Nagas and a pioneer of development of Tenyidie.

The presentation of award was led by Dr Metuo Liezeitsu, Controller of Examination, Ura Academy.

Later, in poetry competition, Visesieü Vielie of Oking Christian School bagged the first position, 2nd-Seyiephrenuo Rutsa, Rüzhükhrie GHSS, 3rd- Tazanü Hibo, Baptist High; story writing: 1st- Noseronu Rote, Corragio School, 2nd- Neivo, Fernwood School, 3rd- Visakuolie, Dainty Buds; essay writing: 1st-Neiketounuo Rülho, Mezhür HSS, 2nd-Mhalevinuo Khezhie, Khedi HSS, 3rd-Dzüzienuo, Northfield Kikha
