Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung celebrated the 24th International Mother Tongue Day under the theme ‘Multilingual education- a necessity to transform education’ at the college premises on February 21. The event was organized by the Department of English, JMC.

Addressing the occasion as the guests speaker, Arenla Longkumer, President, Watsu Mungdang said that language is the primary tool and the most powerful instrument to promote education. She highlighted the importance of multilingual education and how it frames our thoughts and emotions. 

The welcome address was given by Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, JMC who emphasised on “the primary importance of mother tongue.”

Highlights of the day included several presentations by the students from different ethnicities from India and a Spell Bee competition on in Chungli language.

The first place in the Spelling Bee was secured by Sashimenla (Semester VI), the second place by Talimenla (Semester IV) and the third place by Imkongmeren (Semester VI).
