Lao-ong Mo - the Post Harvest Festival of Konyak community was celebrated on September 28 at Local Ground, Mon Town with T. Kekongchim Yimchungru, President, Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation (ENPO) as chief guest and P. Chingan Phom, President, Phom Peoples' Council (PPC) as guest of honor.
The chief guest in his address stated that ‘Konyaks’ are the backbone of ENPO and called upon the gathering to uphold the values of “friendship, unity and reconciliation among the Konyaks.” He urged the people to forgive and reconcile in the name of Lao-ong and said, “if unity could be achieved that would be a victory, but if disunity still prevails among the community then organising such programmes and spending money will be of no use.”
Bringing into context the relevance of education in today's generation, Kekongchim urged upon the gathering to excel in education. He also said that one must celebrate all the festivals “knowing its real meaning, to preserve our culture and traditions.” He pointed out that “we are at the edge of losing our culture and traditions and therefore need to practice our culture and traditions and pass it down the generations.”
Chingan Phom, President PPC, S. Manlip President KU and Imnalensa, IPS SP Mon also delivered short speeches. The programme was organised by Konyak Students' Union and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong. The exhibition stall displaying handicrafts was inaugurated by Thavaseelan K, IAS DC Mon. An indigenous food competition was also organised as part of the festival.
