Lasumi Students' Union holds 60th General Session

Lasumi, December 30 (MExN): The Lasumi Students' Union (LSU) held its 60th (Diamond Jubilee) General Session on December 29 with Er Visakho Therie as the speaker.

The session started with 2 minutes of silence as a moment of reflection and remembrance to the departed souls of its pioneers & student leaders and also the victim of Oting massacre.

Speaking on the occasion, Er Visakho appreciated the pioneers for their wisdom and farsighted vision to form the LSU body way back in 1961.

The pioneers’ efforts have guided and sustained education to Lasumi denizens thus far, he said. 

He also urged the village leaders and students' bodies to supervise with sincerity to ensure the smooth functioning of the Government Middle School in the village to achieve quality education. 

Er Visakho also stressed on the need to allow only genuine teachers to teach and evaluation of their performances.

Stating that consistency in attending class is important in the process of education, he advised LSU to oversee attendance of the students as well.

He also advised the gathering to be more creative in life to keep pace with the fast-changing world.

Er Visakho also  proposed three resolution points to the student body: 1. Teachers and Students regulation; 2. To impart tuition to the interested and  weak students, funded by VDB funds; and 3. To form a committee to guide and pursue job vacancies or placements for employments in various departments or establishments.

Earlier, he unveiled the LSU Diamond Jubilee monolith while a dedicatory prayer for the occasion was pronounced by Wetsope Krome Pastor, LCRC.

Meanwhile, in his presidential address, Tsütshowelhi Marhu called upon the students and village citizen to remember the pioneers for their wisdom and vision and the collective participation of every individual for an effective contribution to society. 

He also stressed the importance of the union stating that it has provided a platform to draw unity, inculcate discipline, provide exposure, render social services and build leaders. 

The session was chaired by Nyitso Therie while Associate Pastor, Phek Town Baptist Church Ngutsolo Therie pronounced the invocation. 

The event also saw the release of jubilee souvenir magazine by Kedulhipe Krome (VCC) while  greetings were extended by Diekute Mero, Vice President Chakhesang Students' Union and Nguchünyi Khupf, first LSU President. 

New office bearers for the tenure of 2022-2024 was declared and blessed upon with prayer by Rev Dingu Kenye and the session ended with a benediction pronounced by LBC Women Pastor, Lhiwetsolo-ü Pradia, a press release from LSU informed.
