Legal awareness for church workers in Tuensang

Tuensang, May 14 (MExN): Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA) organized one-day legal awareness programme with churches association of Tuensang Town at CKS Hall here on May 13.  

Delivering introductory note, N. Kano, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Tuensang and Secretary TDLSA highlighted the activities taken up by the District Legal Services Authority, such as drafting simple affidavits, applications, legal advice to court based cases.  

He also informed on those who are entitled for availing free legal services and how the services have been helping the downtrodden people especially at the grassroots level.  

The Secretary also encouraged the church workers to play important role in spreading legal awareness and be medium to reach the unreached, informed a press release.  

Speaking on the topic Consumer Rights and Motor Vehicle Accident Claims, Heroto Chishi, APP Tuensang shared on who is a consumer, how and where to file complaint, and what reliefs and compensations are available.  

District and Session’s Court, he informed, is the designated Consumer Court in every district. Meanwhile, Chishi asserted it is the duty of the citizens to be vigilant and be aware of the basic rights as a consumer.  

He further stressed on the importance of insuring motor vehicles in recognized insurance company and appropriate forum to claim in case of any accidents.  

Speaking on gender equality and human trafficking, Cheliam Khiamniungan, Master Trainer NSLSA highlighted the Constitutional provisions and the factors contributing to gender violence. Stating that gender equality is an issue affecting every society, be it political, social or economic, she reminded to first treat women as humans and not on the basis of gender.  

On human trafficking, she lamented that trafficking has become a business and it is a reality that many children and women from remote areas are becoming victims.  

Cheliam therefore called upon the churches and encouraged the leaders to play proactive role and act as a medium to educate and spread information in tackling social issues.  

Meanwhile, Yimtsusangla Chang, Retainer Lawyer, presented on cyber crime and its legal implications. 

She also highlighted some of the preventive measures and good practices for safe use of modern technology/network and further urged not to misuse internet.  

Antimangyang Chang, Panel Lawyer, TDLSA, shared on how to file for compensation under Victim Compensation schemes, welfare and maintenance of senior citizens and cautioned on how to be careful and sensitive towards child sexual exploitation through a brief discussion on POCSO Act.  

An interaction session was also held, especially on Consumer Rights, Motor Vehicle Act and Victim’s Compensation Act. 

Earlier, Hongsa Yemjong, Para Legal Volunteer, Tuensang, chaired the programme, while invocation was pronounced by Imlong, Pastor, Chang Baptist Church, Saksi 3rd NAP Sector.
