Kiphire, November 8 (MExN): Dr Y Nuklu Phom, Chairman and team leader of LEMSACHENLOK, has emphasised the need for establishing Biodiversity Peace Corridors and Trans Border Biodiversity Corridors as part of the ‘Missio Ecology’ initiative to foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
Speaking at the workshop emphasising the role of digital tools in community-led biodiversity conservation in Kiphire, Dr Phom stated that while setting aside forest areas and restricting hunting and logging remain primary foundations, conservation today must evolve beyond these traditional methods. “Conservation today is not just setting aside an area of forest, restrict hunting and logging, while these remain a primary foundation for conservation.”
He reiterated the importance of adopting a multi-pronged strategy that includes Digitalised Portal Development Exercises and initiating Management Plan exercises with resource mapping.
Dr Phom also stressed on the need to create sustainable livelihoods anchored in biodiversity, aligning these efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Further, he introduced the concept of ‘AlijoCademia’, a traditional learning model aimed at empowering rural education. The initiative focuses on equipping and instilling holistic learning for communities engaged in maintaining biodiversity corridors.
