Leprosy Case Detection Campaign launched at Chief Medical Officer’s office, Dimapur on January 23.

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): The Leprosy Case Detection Campaign at Chief Medical Officer’s office, Dimapur was launched by CMO Dimapur Dr I Moatemjen on January 23. 

During the launching programme, the CMO office in a press release stated that Dr Ahu, State Programme Officer said, “Leprosy, being, one of the oldest diseases in the world, a lot of myths and misconceptions about the disease prevalent in the olden days are still present today, which have resulted in stigma and discrimination associated with Leprosy in our society.”

He stated that leprosy is curable in any stage like any other skin diseases; the only difference being that leprosy if not treated can cause deformity. He informed that all the leprosy cases treated today were once hidden cases which were detected during such LCD campaigns held in the past. He, therefore, urged the Search Teams and Supervisors to continue working diligently during this campaign and refer any suspected case for confirmation and free treatment.

Dr Valentina Neikha, District Programme Officer, National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) while chairing the programme emphasized on intensive Inter-Personal Communication during house to house visits to dispel misconceptions, stigmas and discriminations associated with leprosy.

Other officials attending the Programme includes Dr SK Dey, State Consultant for Leprosy, Dr. Tiala, CMO Chümoukedima, Dr Antoly Suu, DyCMO, Dr Benchilo, DTO, Dr, Kavito, DPO (NVBDCP), Dr Rebecca, DPO (RCH/UIP) and staffs under CMO establishment.
