Today what Nagas enjoy are few examples of what our leaders had done in the past. In the name of Naga Club our leaders submitted a memorandum to Simon Commission on 10th Jan. 1929 and clearly expressed to leave us alone. After the formation of NNC in 1946, the NNC declared the Naga Independence on 14th August, 1947 one day ahead of India’s Independence. The Nagas pledge to be a sovereign Nation and thereby conducted a voluntary plebiscite in the year 1951 declaring 99%in favor of the Naga sovereign state as in ancient time. And it is said “Well foundation is half done”.
The NNC/FGN expressed many times to Indian leaders to leave Nagaland and maintain good relationship between the two neighbours and peacefully live as before. But till now the GOI fails to withdraw its occupation armed forces from Nagaland. More over the GOI played a dirty policy to annex Nagaland through her might. If Mahatma Gandhi is really the father of the Indian nation why didn’t Indians follow the goodwill principle of Mahatma Gandhi that “might is not right”. A mighty nation wars against small nation like Nagaland is totally against the charter of UN.
To leave our right in the court of India or to decide the Naga future by India is not the right of the Nagas but to protect our people and our land is our bounden responsibility. We cannot leave our young generation to live under the bondage of the aggressor. There is a limit for everything and no one can fool the Nagas all the times. It is the time for the Nagas to judge well on the various statements made by different sections of our people in Nagaland dailies. “A guilty person will always lie till the end of his life.” The world is curious at the present peace talk between the National Socialist Council of Nagalim and the Government of India hijacking the purest democracy of Nagaland.
In defence of our national right, many patriotic national workers, Church leaders and innocent Naga publics were killed by the Indian Army. Granaries and villages were burnt down to ashes. Many Nagas were tortured to death and even buried with alive. Many women were molested and raped to the point of death. All these immeasurable sufferings faced by the Nagas in the hands of Indian Army are not for one’s guilty but all these are for the cause of our birthright to be a free nation. Can we sell this untold sufferings at the cost of such a cheap price? An attempt to submit the right of the Nagas eyeing to go under the constitution of India is a sell-out. The mandate of Naga people is supreme and a solution within Indian Union is against the mandate of Naga people. More over it is not the will of God.
A visionary Naga leader AZ. Phizo, President, NNC on 8th October, 1960 submitted a memorandum to His Excellency Frederick H. Bolend, President, United Nations’ General Assembly for recognition of our right as a Nation. If the GOI does not withdraw its armed forces from the soil of Nagaland, the Nagas shall continue to appeal the United Nations to achieve our goal. So that the future generation would peacefully live as a free citizen of Nagaland.
