With an objective towards creating awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, Team Better Dimapur (TBD) in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council has the announced the launching of ‘Let’s Keep Our City Clean,’ initiative here at Peres Restro, Dimapur on August 11.

This campaign will be initiated through visiting educational institutions, churches, colonies and wards stated which will go on for a year, said President of TBD Mhonjan Lotha.

He mentioned that the crucial aspect of their plan was to bring awareness for each individual as it begins foremost ‘with you and me as a citizen of Dimapur.’

DMC Administrator, Manpai Phom who was also present during the launch emphasised that Dimapur will never be clean unless the citizens take proactive steps through action. On their part, he mentioned that the DMC has been conducting surveys and visitation of wards to collect data on the number of households for a better waste collection and management system.

Moreover, he shared the recent experience of the effects of monsoon rain and what it can cause when people dump waste materials into the drainages.  This matter has been taken up with the GBs and colony councils about checking the rampant dumping of waste materials into the drains, he said.

Segregation of waste was also another important point which needed to be followed by all the households, the DMC administrator viewed.

“So we are hopeful that things will improve and this campaign with Team Better Dimapur will spread awareness among the citizens,” he said.
