Lhisemia Khel celebrates Sekrenyi in Kohima

The Lhisemia Khel of Kohima village celebrated Sekrenyi with much pomp and traditional gaiety at TM School Ground, Kohima on March 4. Sekrenyi is the premier festival of the Angami Nagas.

Gracing the festival, Lhisemia Council chairman Ayie Yhome stressed on the need to preserve and protect the vibrant culture and traditions of the Nagas.

It is important to preserve our culture, tradition, mother tongue, customs, traditional dresses to uphold our identity, he said.

Our culture represents our pride and identity, he added.

It is imperative to know other cultures and languages in the fast-changing world but we should not forget our culture, he said.

He also told the gathering to value the good social norms of the forefathers to secure a dignify life.

Further, Yhome called upon the citizens to stay united and strengthen a peaceful environment.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dziivinguzo Mepfhiio while Mhasimhalie Yhome, president Lhisemia Youth Organization shared greetings.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU) president Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo.

The celebration witnessed folk songs from Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU), Khrierei Krotho and Seyiekruonuo Yhome.

Indigenous games, tug of war and Sekrenyi feast marked the grand celebration.

Vote of thanks was proposed by LSU president Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo.

The celebration was jointly managed by LYO and LSU.
