Lhisemia Students’ Union celebrates 75 yrs anniversary

Advisor, School Education and SCERT, Government of Nagaland, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome graced the 75 years anniversary of the Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU) at TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima College on October 14.

Speaking after launching the souvenir, Yhome asked the gathering to reimagine on how far and well, they would be able to set the precedence for the future upcoming generation. Looking back at the history, he said the student body was formed a decade ahead of the khel council body which was formed in 1958. 

Yhome said while the journey has been extensive, and encompasses significant changes from the inception to the modern world, he however noted that till considerable contribution was made in the field of education and language development. 

He emphasised that in Kohima from 1946-1967, only five government schools were established, along with two private schools to cater to providing education of the lot. But tremendous progress has since been made, with nearly 40 schools now established, comprising both private and government institutions to enable students to formal avail education, he observed. Out of over 6000 population comprising the L Khel, with over a thousand household, there were around 1200 students taking education from in and around Kohima, he added. 

The speaker lauded the Dolphin club, a group which was formed in 1988 that has been making consistent efforts for the welfare of the society, particularly students.

An aspect of the progress in the khel, that Yhome mentioned was that, the khel have around 177 gazetted officers serving in the central and state government department which was a commendable feat. He hoped that more educated youth and professionals will achieve feats in the future. 

The Advisor called upon the need for enhancing quality of government schools in and around Kohima and urged everyone to collaborate and contribute towards the same. He said that these efforts cannot be accomplished in isolation, but with collective efforts, we can work towards improving society as a whole.

Yhome further encouraged the union to strive towards establishing additional achievement awards at both the village and state levels and assured to render his support in providing any necessary assistance for these endeavors, ensuring upliftment for all.
President of LSU- 1975-76, Tseivilie Miachieo spoke about the inception and early days of the student union. 

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo, President, LSU and Chairman Lhisemia Thinuo, Ayie Yhome and President, Kohima Village Students’ Union, Vilalhou Sorhie gave greetings. Keneisevor Dzüvichü also gave a presentation. The vote of thanks was given by Dr Metuo Liezietuo. Songs were presented by LSU Choir, Vilaseü Mepfhüo, Menguseü Miachio.
