The Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ), the Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and the Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) made a fervent appeal to Kangpokpi district administration, local MLAs and the Government of Manipur to extend help and support as the road connecting Kangpokpi and Tamenglong district via Chawangkining-Tapon to T- Waichong and Makui Golai to Langka have been cut off totally due to incessant rain which leads to flood, mudslides and landslides at several parts including IT Road and its subsidiaries roads.
It said that the local villagers of Tapon, Makui, Langka, T Waichong and other neighbouring villagers have been trying their level best to restore the road damaged by the rain with the limited resources available with them.
Stating that the road which is now the lifeline of the people living in IT Road area, the organisations stated that the inclement weather has wreaked havoc the normal life of the villagers in the area, making it a ‘nightmare’ to commute as the villages are now completely cut off from the district headquarters and the state capital. As a result, they said, there is a shortage of essential commodities such as food supplies, life supporting medicines, safe drinking water and power supply etc. since the last few days. The Liangmai bodies said that the villagers who need medical attention and medical emergencies are being carried on bamboo stretchers and trekking for days to the nearest healthcare centers.
The Liangmai bodies said that it has been the same story during every rainy season despite appeals from affected people to the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, they also urged the concerned authorities to visit the affected areas of IT Road to take stock of the situation and have the first-hand assessment of the magnitude of damages caused to agricultural lands and irrigation canals in Tapon, Makui, Langka and its adjoining areas.
“Therefore, it is our earnest prayer to the concerned district administrations, concerned authorities and the State Government to take up necessary measures and address our grievances so that the normal life of the people living in the area is restored at the earliest,” the Liangmai organisations urged.
