Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): Accusing the present BJP-lead NDA government at the Centre for dividing the nation on religious line, the NPCC President K Therie on Tuesday declared that , “Our society lives peacefully and no questions about which religion one belongs to were raised until the Modi government came to power.”
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President said this while addressing public meetings in Tuensang, Tobu and Mopong Towns as a part of its mass contact tour for ‘Change,’’ stated NPCC Media Cell press note.
“We have no problem with the Hindu religion but wonder why BJP is attacking our religion” he questioned claiming that since the assumption of power at the Centre, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has “declared Christmas day as Good Governance Day and Good Friday as Judges’ Conference day.”
Life has changed through ‘Ghar Wapsi’ and ‘beef ban’ under the present government” he added.
Narendra Modi has travelled to more than “30 Christian and Muslim countries” after becoming the Prime Minister of India “begging” them to produce ‘Made in India’ products, but “His RSS-led BJP Government continues to discriminate Christians and Muslims back home,” Therie further alleged adding these nations will not “invest in India as long as BJP continues to divide the nation on religious lines.”
“How can Christians vote for BJP in the next election? The only reason to vote for them is for their money” he maintained. I
n this connection, Therie also flayed the 60 legislatures from the State for their continued silence on the sufferings of “our Christian brothers so far.”
Attacking the Nagaland Government on economic front, Therie claimed that since the government does not have any works plan for them, the public cannot use even a “single spade to earn their livelihood.” “We have so many crises before us but no MLAs have any suggestions or solutions to solve the problems” he said.
“Today job card holders are not getting anything while the non job card holders have become the real beneficiaries,” he further alleged.
On Naga political issue, the NPCC Chief asserted that, “Political solution has been the top agenda for Congress since its inception” and alluded that the NPCC continues to uphold the 10-point modalities signed in 1978 with the then AICC President, Indira Gandhi in the presence of AR Antulay, General Secretary, AICC.
“The 10-point modalities have given NPCC a unique place in the Indian National Congress... We stand by the resolution adopted in 1972 at Pfütsero NNO Convention, the forerunner of NPCC that the party will endeavour to solve the Naga Political problem through peaceful and Constitutional means and to serve as a bridge between Naga Undergrounds and the GOI.”
Therie further maintained that NPCC has “even gone beyond our mandate by offering talks without pre-conditions and today because of that, we have Ceasefire Agreements and negotiations.”
The wish of the public should be the wish and will of the Government, he said adding “I stand for the public because they voted for me.”
Stating that it is “pained” by the delay in finding an amicable solution, the Party assured that, given an opportunity to rule, NPCC would play an effective mediatory role to secure political and economic solutions.
Therie likened present State’s 60 MLAs to “6 Blind Men trying to analyse what the elephant looks like” and could only request Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Interlocutor to resolve the Naga political problem as soon as possible, without any vision, recommendations or suggestions.
Questioning the deployment of security forces “everywhere like a war zone” the NPCC President wondered whether “We are fighting with our enemies or with our own brothers and sisters.”
Saying that peace cannot be gifted, sanctioned or purchased, he urged the people to let peace come from within their hearts.
Meanwhile, regarding the controversy over NPCC’s “The Bedrock of Naga Society,” Therie claimed that he was asked to resign and expelled from the Congress for disagreeing with the same.
The NPCC President further downplayed infighting within the Party and said that crisis is now over and there are “coordination between the NPCC and DCCs.”
The NPCC has come out with the Road Map for ‘Change’ after many consultations, he said urged the public, “If you want change, only a party with a political system, ideologies, principles and polices can deliver it. If voted to power, we assure you that we will fulfill the Road Map.”
NPCC Secretaries Athang Chongloi, L. Chuba Yim and I Alemla Chang; Gen. Secy. Dokiu Kecham; Vice President V Lasuh; and DCC Tuensang President, N Mosha Chang also addressed the public meetings.
“Congress will form the next Central Government”
The NPCC President today claimed that Congress will form the next Central Government arguing that since assuming power, the Bharatiya Janata Party have lost “all the state, local and municipal elections because of their intolerance.” He said this while addressing the public meetings at Mon, Aboi and Longleng Town as a part of the ongoing Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s Mass Contact tour for ‘Change.’
Therie further predicted that that BJP will not be able to form even a single government out of the five elections to be held in 2016 saying it was defeated in the even local body elections of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own hometown recently. Further alleging that the BJP Govt’s policy is that India is “Hindustan, Hinduism and Hindus” and forcing their ideologies on children by including them in the school textbooks, Therie warned that “Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism etc are all in danger because of this reason.”
On the home front, NPCC Chief hits out at the present State Government questioning what good Naga People’s Front Government has done for the people to seeks votes from them.
“Today Nagas are struggling politically, economically and socially. Our own identity and religion is in danger and has come to a point that we cannot believe ourselves anymore,” he maintained.
Expressing its pains to see the poor living standard of other people, he said the NPCC has come out a programme for ‘Change’ to share with you and the rest of Nagaland.
Highlighting at length on the benefits of various schemes under Dept. of Civil Supplies, MGNREGA and Medical Insurance, “which are all manipulated”, Therie said “given opportunity, we will deliver the goods to the public”.
Others who addressed the meetings were Lanpha Konyak Member, NPCC and Athang Chongloi, Secy. NPCC, according a press note from NPCC Media Cell.
