Lily Allen reveals she was stalked for Seven Years

Singer Lily Allen has revealed she was stalked by an obsessed man for seven years and the unwanted attention left her feeling like a “hermit”. The pop star became the focus for Alex Gray, from Perth, who bombarded her with abusive letters and tweets before breaking into her house while she and her two children slept.   Speaking to the Observer, the singer explained that the ordeal had completely changed her and she felt isolated from friends and family and let down by the police. Allen told the Observer that the harassment persisted in the form of letters, abusive rants, accusations and suicide threats. She said: “He [Gray] would drop off these letters at my record company, my management offices, my sister’s shop, my flat. “It was freaking me out a bit. Alarm bells were ringing.”

Allen went to the police but was left feeling as they didn’t take her seriously. She said: “I felt very alone. I have some trust issues now, not least with the police. Who can you trust if you cannot trust institutions like the police?” The nightmare began in 2009 when a Twitter follower with the handle @lilyallenRIP appeared claiming to have written her hit The Fear.   It was discovered Gray was behind the account who Allen has since said she is not angry with because he has a “mental illness”. Gray was convicted of burglary and harassment at Harrow Crown Court earlier this month and will be sentenced in May.
