Nagaland Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Advisor, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire inaugurated the link road between Lower PWD-Midland ward, Kohima on December 22.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nicky expressed happiness over the completion of the project and hope that the public would use the provided facility well its purpose.
Dr Nicky maintained that the 7 wards under Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) are getting lots of benefit.
He told the commuters along this route to exercise a sense of regard and respect for each other, as the road, though not big in nature, is open for two way traffic. The opening of this link road will help ease traffic problem to some extent in Kohima, he said.
Apart from others, he conveyed special thanks to Akato Zhimomi & family and Viu Belho for their kind gesture towards the project.
Kopelo Krome, chairman Midland Panchayat Kohima described the opening of this link road between Lower PWD and Midland as a kind of “dream come true.”
He thanked the concerned authority for translating the much needed connectivity into a reality.
Ato Puro, who spoke on behalf of Lower PWD panchayat and PWD Youth Organization thanked Dr Nicky and Er K Theunuo for putting utmost efforts towards to accomplishment of the project.
He also thanked the major role played by Akato Zhimomi and Viu Belho.
Earlier, the function was chaired by Kezhochole Rhetso, general manager (planning) Kohima Smart City Development Limited and joint director UDD.
Technical detail of link road construction
Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) Chief Executive Officer Er K Theunuo said that construction of Lower PWD and Midland link road was surveyed & proposed during 2008-09 when he was EE (R&B), South Division but due to fund constraint, it could not be taken up.
Dr Nicky has initiated this project and even allocated fund from District Plan for construction of retailing walls and earthwork but due to limited resources, this link road could not complete till March 2022, he said.
“This year under the initiative of our advisor (Dr. Nicky), Kohima Smart City has taken up this road under Urban mobility, Internal Road Network Development as one of the pilot projects under Area based Development of Kohima Smart City funded by the MoHUA, GoI,” Er Theunuo said.
The work was tendered & awarded to M/s Viu Angami & Sons on 22nd March 2022 with the amount of Rs 87.88 Lakhs and completion period of 9 months.
The project was completed on July 16, 2022 much before the stipulated time with quality work as per specifications of contract norms & agreement, informed Er Theunuo while presenting a technical report of the project.
The main components of this project are RCC pavement of 142meters length, composite R/wall, Hume pipes culvert, side drain with Cattle Trap & CRSM walls.
“I am sure this road will ease the traffic congestion of Kohima to some extent and also provide the easy accessibility to the colonies of Midland & Lower PWD,” CEO said.
He thanked the contractor & his team for successful completion of the project within the timeline.
He also thanked both the chairmen of Midland & Lower PWD Panchayat and their members for allowing Kohima Smart City to construct this link road and also given their full support to the project & complete on time.
