Liquor and drugs destroyed in Dimapur

Dimapur, November 29 (MExN): Seized drugs and liquor estimated to be worth around Rs. 1.76 crore were destroyed by the Excise (Narcotic Cell) and Dimapur district Excise on November 29 at the Excise Directorate, Dimapur. The drugs and liquor were seized between November 2016 and October 2017.  

A report from the Superintendent of Excise (Narcotic Cell) Phyobemo Lotha informed that 50 grams of heroin, 429 grams of brown sugar, 700 grams of opium, 501 kg of ganja, 3200 tablets of amphetamine (Yaba), 40,913 capsules of spasmo proxyvon, and 881 bottles of cough syrup were destructed today. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs. 1.42 crore.  

The Superintendent of Excise, Dimapur meanwhile destroyed 16, 278 bottles of IMFL, of which 4, 831 bottles were seized by the office of Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Narcotic Cell). The total estimate of the liquor is put at Rs. 34 lakh.  

A statement from the Superintendent of Excise, Dimapur T. Arilong Longkumer maintained that during the period from November 2016 till date, a total of 570 cases were registered in connection to liquor and four cases related to drugs. Rs. 14.13 lakh fine was realized through the seizure during the period.  

During the destruction programme, Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Narcotic Cell) Kevisetuo Angami reminded the department that they are entrusted with the responsibility to defend the society and taking into account the confidence placed upon them, they should not gamble with the menace that is affecting the society.
