Phek, January 5 (MExN): Holy Family Parish Catholic Youth Association (HFPCYA), Pfutsero held its 5th convention at St Paul’s Church, North Kikruma, Phek from December 29 to 31 last.

A press release stated here that Rev Fr Dhazü SJ, Assistant Parish Priest, Holy Family Parish, Pfutsero was the main celebrant for the Holy Eucharist under the theme ‘Fruit of the Spirit’, Galatians 5: 22-23.  While inaugurating the convention, he encouraged the youth on the importance of listening to Jesus. “Listening must be followed by doing as Mary said to the servants in John 2:5 ‘Do whatever he tells you’,” he preached.

Er Kopelo Dominic Letou, President, HFPCYA, Pfutsero delivered the presidential address. The youth competed in various events such as solo, duet – western, extempore speech, choreography and theme song, ‘Catholic Action Tsali’ (Catholic Action Song).

Speaking on the topic ‘youth ministry-challenges and responsibilities,’ Kezevinuo Krome, TOT, Education Block Resource Center, Pfutsero said that there is a lot of temptations in this glamorous, materialistic and fast changing technology world. “And so, youth must be firmly grounded on the word of God.”

She said that youth are power packed people, and they should use their passion and energy for the glory of God. They should be sincere because the Church needs sincere people for evangelization. Krome urged the youth to build up their relationship with God by praying, reading Bible consistently and to give up their bad habits, and “stand firmly grounded in faith with a heart for Jesus just like St Paul and Timothy.”

Dr Lowrence Kithan, Scientist Agronomy, AICRP on Pigeonpea, SASARD NU, Medziphema, President NCYM spoke on ‘Sacraments.’

He said that the seven Sacraments are the outward signs of Salvation that Jesus Christ has given to his Church so the Church in Christ is like a Sacrament. It touches all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life and which in turn give birth and increase healing and mission to the Christians life of faith.

He said that the Sacraments of Church do not abolish but purify and integrate all the richness of the signs and symbols of the cosmos and of social life. When Church bestow the Sacraments, it is not merely speaking symbolic words about redemption and belonging to God but the Sacraments actually make us belong to God and they bestow Salvation on us as through the Sacraments we receive the 'efficacious signs of grace.’ Dr Kithan also released the Constitution of HFPCYA, Pfutsero.

Teisovi Gerard Meyase, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and Dy Controller of Examinations, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma spoke on ‘Rosary.’

He said that the Rosary is the most widely practiced form of extra-liturgical devotion to Mary among Catholics. It is also prayed by Anglicans, Lutherans and increasing many other Protestants and Orthodox Christians. No other form of devotion outside the liturgy has been more recommended by Popes over the centuries, no other form of prayer has been more cited as the favourite of the greatest saints. Being completely scriptural, the Rosary is a compendium of the Gospel, contemplating the face of Christ at the school of Mary. In it, every generation of the faithful continues to fulfil the Gospel prophecy in Luke 1:48 to call the Mother of God “blessed”. Through the meditations of the complete Rosary, we recall and impress on our minds the chief mysteries of the Christian religion, the mysteries of our Redemption, the great mysteries of Jesus and His Mother united in joy, light, sorrow, and glory. He also released the First Magazine for documentation of HFPCYA, Pfutsero.

Dignitaries such as Catechists, office bearers of NCYM, CCYA, St Ignatius Parish, Razeba and well-wishers also attended the Convention. Vetsonuyo Victor Tunyi, Catechist of St Paul’s Church, North Kikruma did the flag lowering ceremony for the 5th Convention of HFPCYA, Pfutsero.
