Medziphema, November 10 (MExN): Three-day training on ‘Livelihood improvement through aquaculture practices in Nagaland’ was inaugurated by Kevisa Kense, Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Nagaland on November 9 at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre.
Kevisa Kense maintained that training on fish culture is very necessary as fish culture practices need to improve in order to enhance fish production. Pointing out that fish culture in neglected by the people and the funds are diverted for other purpose, he expressed that the mindset of the people need to be changed to bring development in fish culture practice. He mentioned that training needs to be conducted in every district of Nagaland and urged the farmers to come forward to the State department as well as ICAR for help.
Dr. Lohit Kumar Bhaishya, Senior Scientist, ICAR RC for NEH region, Nagaland Centre highlighted the importance of fish in integrated farming system. He mentioned that large quantity of fish consumed in Nagaland comes from other State thus indicating the need to enhance fish production in the State. He also urged the farmers to interact and learn as much as possible from the 3 days training.
Yhuntan, DFO, Kohima stressed on the importance of management in fish culture and highlighted the need of proper feeding, which is generally neglected. Dr. Vemizo K Angami, DFO, Dimapur mentioned the need for such kind of training in every district as the problems are different in different districts and requested the ICAR to conduct training in collaboration with line department.
The training will cover all aspects of fish culture from basic pond preparation to the marketing strategies. Lectures will be delivered by experts from ICAR RC for NEH region, Nagaland Centre, KVK, Dimapur, Department of Fisheries and ICAR RC for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The participants will be exposed to different fish culture technologies and hands on practical experience.
