The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Eastern Zone, Manipur has urged the Kangpokpi district administration to revoke the imposition of 144 CrPC in Thonglang Atongba village jurisdiction “immediately.”

The Council made the appeal in a written statement to the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi on Friday.

It also demanded from the DC Kangpokpi to cancel “village status given to the Nepali blocks" in Irang Part-One and Part-Two “as they are not recognized in official records.”

The council stated that a team visited the area to assess the situation on January 20. “Upon enquiry, it was observed that the imposed curfew was uncalled for as it has created a sense of panic and tension to the public,” it said, adding, “Otherwise, the situation is quite peaceful in the area”.

The council therefore urged the “authority to positively respond to our demand within 48 hours, failing which the council shall be compelled to initiate stringent forms of agitations till our charter of demands are fulfilled”.
