Load shedding: Nagaland power dept appeals for cooperation

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): An unprecedented coal supply shortage all over India and low rainfall has affected power generation at the Inter State Generating Station, decreasing power allocation for the state of Nagaland. As a result, the state Power department has been compelled to impose forced load shedding, the Executive Engineer for Transmission Division, Dimapur informed in a press release on Sunday.

Stating that Nagaland’s power demand is mostly dependent on the power allocation from Inter State Generating Station comprising of Hydro, Gas and Thermal Power Plant, the EE said that about 36 percent of the state’s allocation comes from coal-based the Thermal Power Plant. “In addition to this, the rainfall in the catchment areas of most of the hydro projects is very low this year affecting the power generation of the hydro power plants,” the EE added.

“Due to the reduced generation from the Hydro and Thermal plant, the state power allocation has decreased compelling the department of power to impose forced load shedding,” the official stated while requesting consumers to extend cooperation and bear with the inconvenience.
