Local artistes perform in aid of downtrodden children

Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): The fund raising event for children infected and affected with HIV/ AIDS organized by Tenyimi Students Union Dimapur Government College at IMC hall here saw performances from local artistes and a dinner later. The organizers had sold tickets to the crowd in order to materialize the entertainment event cum buffet making it possible for them to cheer to the presentations of Funky Fresh Boys (dance group) and Avancer (rock band). The proceeds from the event will specifically go to “Care and Hope”, an education support programme for children infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS under Youngs’ Club Dimapur. 

The Special Guest of the event, Opang Jamir, Mr. International India 2011 expounded on the need for the young people to lead a responsible and controlled life in order to pave way for the younger generation. Hence, he appreciated the event organizers for taking a noble initiative to give hope to the younger generation through the event. Speaking on HIV/AIDS, Opang expressed concern about the stigma and discrimination attached to the disease in the society. “HIV/AIDS is something we need to understand…It our (youth) responsibility to give them (victims) hope.” Encouraging everyone to put God first and foremost in everything, he thanked God for his success and also urged the young people to be practicing Christians. At 19, Opang Jamir was an ambassador for AIDS in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the president and founding member of Youngs’ Club, Jenpu Rongmei said that the Youngs’ Club was founded to represent the power of oneness. Expressing dismay over HIV/AIDS victims being constantly stigmatized and discriminated, he encouraged the youths to connect with each other so they can share the ups and downs in life. As mentioned in the hand-out at the event, Youngs’ Club founded in 2010 with the motto “Let’s give hope” is all about “connecting young people irrespective of tribe, religion and promote active citizens in the society for social change through organizing and involving in different youth programmes…”
