Nagaland Housing & Mechanical Minister, Tongpang Ozukum, who is also Minister incharge of Kohima DTF said that the decision to impose lockdown in Kohima was made due to the rising number of COVID-19 positive cases being detected outside the Quarantine Centers (QC) and considering the concerns being shared from different corners of the district.
He said that imposing total lockdown does not fully guarantee that “we will be free or we are free from Coronavirus but at least, but during the lockdown since movement of people is restricted to a large extend, we can easily detect suspected cases and adopt isolation measures, enhance active surveillance.”
We can also comprehensively do the contact tracing and most importantly break the chain of infection and slow down the spread of Virus, the Minister said.
Stating that total lockdown is not the solution, the Minister called upon all to strictly adhere to the SOPs and guidelines like wearing of face mask, using hand sanitizers, washing hands time to time, and maintaining strict social distance in public places.
“We should make this lockdown meaningful and fruitful. There will be inconveniences but people should understand this total lockdown as an emergency protocol enforced for the benefit of all,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) thanked the state government, the HPC, DC Kohima and Kohima DTF for their efforts to contain the pandemic. It further assured complete cooperation. It asked citizens to stay home and strictly adhere to the instructions of the authorities.
