Longleng, June 13 (MExN): The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS, has issued an order directing all shopkeepers, roadside vendors and business establishments to immediately clear encroachments from public footpaths, walkways, roadsides, drains and public spaces in Longleng Town, warning of confiscation, penalties, and legal proceedings for non-compliance.
The order, issued under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, comes after authorities observed widespread unauthorized occupation of public spaces, including display of goods, construction materials, furniture, and temporary structures, causing obstruction to pedestrians, inconvenience to customers, hindrance to traffic flow and public nuisance.
Under the directive, the following activities are strictly prohibited: occupation of footpaths or drains for display or sale of goods; setting up temporary stalls or vending structures on roads or pedestrian pathways; placing construction materials, equipment, or furniture on municipal land; blocking shop entrances or public access areas; and any act that obstructs free movement of pedestrians, emergency services, or vehicular traffic.
The ADC emphasised that all public roads, footpaths, pavements, and public spaces are vested in and regulated by the Municipal/Town Council under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, and no person can occupy or encroach upon them without lawful authority.
Failure to comply will result in immediate removal of encroachments, recovery of removal expenses from violators, seizure and confiscation of materials, goods, and structures, imposition of penalties, and initiation of legal proceedings.
The order, stated to be in the interest of public convenience, pedestrian safety, smooth traffic movement, cleanliness, public health, and orderly urban management, has come into force with immediate effect. All concerned have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
