Longleng: More support required to combat human trafficking

Longleng, July 30 (MExN): The District Task Force (DTF) BBBP, Mahila Shakti Kendra and Sakhi One Stop center Longleng organized a programme to mark World Day against Human Trafficking at DC conference hall on July 30. 

The programme was held on the theme ‘There Is Hope; together we can stop the traffickers, we are not powerless’ with D Robin, ADC Longleng as the special guest.

The ADC addressing the gathering said that the root cause of trafficking is poverty, lack of employment opportunities, low socio-economy status, lack of education and lack of proper implementation of government schemes for children like mid day meal, Poshan Abhiyan etc. 

He said that if the village council, NGOs, churches together with government agencies can do the ground work, could bring solution for trafficking.

Atopu Sumi, Addl SP, Longleng in his short speech on the theme said, “In Nagaland the traffickers does not realize their own deeds. They promise to provide food and education to the innocent child by handing them over to some rich people and in return they charge fees for the children.” 

He therefore called upon the district administration, departments concerned along with local bodies, to take a survey in villages, conduct awareness programme etc to end the crimes in our society.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Tutinungla Phom, District Coordinator (MSK) while the keynote address was delivered by Robhi Sangtam, EAC HQ Longleng. 

Meanwhile, P Phungla Phom (WWO) MSK Longleng declared the winner for online competitions. The winners of the online easy competition for the junior category were: 1st - Leitong Phom, 2nd -Chingpang 3rd –Esapzeu; and senior category were: 1st -Longshom Phom, 2nd -Spvia Jenger and 3rd -Kontok Phom. The mother daughter photograph competition winners were as follows: 1st -Atau Phom, 2nd-Shumei Phom and 3rd -Chuthei Phom.
