LONGLENG, JUNE 15 (MExN): The department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Longleng conducted a sensitization program on Clean Meat Production and Meat Borne Diseases in collaboration with the Medical Department and the Longleng Town Council at DPDB hall Longleng on June 14.
Veterinary Surgeon, Longleng, Dr Aoyimsen Jamir dwelt on the sanitation and hygienic management of the slaughter areas to ensure clean meat production chain to the consumers after acquiring the animals from the farmers and suppliers, a DIPR report stated.
The stakeholders in the meat business were sensitized on the hygienic management of their retail meat shops which includes the maintenance of the transport vehicle and equipment used. He also cautioned the meat handlers on the occupational hazards of contracting infections, zoonotic as well as parasitic diseases through meat if proper personal hygiene and precaution is not followed.
Dr Limasungle Imchen, Epidemiologist from the Medical Department highlighted on the meat borne zoonotic and parasitic diseases and explained how commercial as well as domestic meat handlers at home can be infected with various diseases if hygienic handling and proper cooking of meat is not done. She also stressed on the personal hygiene management and the precautionary measures to be followed while handling meat.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by VAS (MVU) Dr. Mophe B Phom, while vote of thanks was proposed by Issac Pongshi from Longleng Town Council. The program was attended by the registered meat stall owners, poultry dealers and fish vendors. EAC, Imkongnukla Ao, exhorted and encouraged the participants.
