Wokha, October 5 (MExN): The Longsa Village Council (LVC) today appealed the Chief Engineer, PWD (National Highways) for construction of proper drainage system at NH 2, in and around the Village. In a representation to the Chief Engineer, the LVC pointed out that an adequate drainage system is essential for maintaining the structural soundness and efficiency of any roads and that pavement structure should be protected from any ingress of water.
“However, to the dismay of everyone, the contractor concerned failed to construct the side drainage in and around Longsa village,” it maintained.
As a result, huge volume of water flows over the asphalt surface during rainfall, causing severe inconveniences to the travellers and residents living below the NH as well as damaging the newly constructed road, it added.
The council also informed that a minor landslide has blocked a portion of the road near the village towards Kohima side for several months now, damaging the road badly.
However, no clearance and maintenance activity has been undertaken by the contractor concerned, it alleged.
Accordingly, the LVC urged the Chief Engineer instruct the concerned contractor/firm to undertake maintenance activity wherever necessary and to immediately construct the side drainage towards the Wokha town side, as per the detailed project report specifications and the rules of the “right of way” before October 21.
However, in the event of any lapses on the part of the contractor/firm to undertake remedial measures within the stipulated date, the LVC Village Council shall be forced to take compelling action starting from October 23, it stated.
“The contractor/firm shall be wholly responsible for any untoward situation that may arise of any such eventuality,” added the LVC representation appended by its Chairman, Ponphyamo Kikon and Secretary, Yanpanthung Ezung.
