  Tetso College celebrates Scholastic Day 2016  

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Tetso College celebrated Scholastic Day 2016 on January 30, which was graced by Mmhonlumo Kikon, Parliamentary Secretary for Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Border Affairs as chief guest.  

The day saw release of annual college newsletter by the chief guest and prizes awarded to the Student of the Year and class champions of the college.  

Dr. Hewasa Lorin presented a special award to Naomi Aye, currently pursuing her Masters in English at Nagaland University, for topping the English Honours Programme in the Nagaland University BA final exams of 2015. Along with Naomi, three other students of the college secured 3rd rank in English, 2nd rank in Education, and 4th rank in Sociology.  

The college declared Khathila Y. Sangtam, B.A 6th Semester as Student of the Year 2015. Class champions of 2015 went to BA 4th semester; the students dedicated their award to their classmate Tiasoba Kichu who passed away last year.  

An attendance bonus of Rs 2500 each was presented to teaching staff members Amar Ranjan Dey and Monjit Roy for not missing a single day of class in the previous year. Twenty students were also recognised for securing 100% attendance.  

Mithun Owary, Assistant Librarian of Tetso College was also presented a certificate for spearheading the computerisation of the Tetso College library. The Student Council and Class representatives were also acknowledged.  

In his speech, Mmhonlumo Kikon, elaborated on how social media was a reflection of the youths’ frustrations and the important role they also play in changing and solving the problems in society. Sharing stories from his own life, Kikon inspired the students to look beyond government service, stating “By not working you are destroying the future of the state”. While not absolving the government for all the problems in society, he encouraged the youth to demand development from their leaders while not forgetting that it is they themselves who elected those same leaders.  

The function concluded with an informal session consisting of songs, dances and a cultural fashion show.
