Lotha Hoho calls for ground-realistic report on JJM in Wokha

WOKHA, JANUARY 14 (MExN): The Lotha Hoho has expressed its appreciation for the constitution of an Enquiry Committee by the Government of Nagaland to investigate the allegations related to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) raised by the Nagaland Transparency Public Rights Advocacy & Direct Action Organisation (NTPRADAO).

However, the Hoho has also urged the committee to carefully consider the ground realities in Wokha district, where the implementation of the JJM schemes has been far from successful.

According to the Lotha Hoho, the success of JJM schemes in Wokha district has been minimal, with actual water supply delivery to the targeted villagers reported to be nearly nonexistent. While there are token project components, such as water tanks marked with JJM slogans and implementation features, the core objective of providing water to the communities has not been realized.

In a response to a Right to Information (RTI) query from the Wokha Division of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, it was revealed that nearly forty JJM schemes had been implemented and commissioned in Wokha district as of May 2023. However, the Lotha Hoho described these initiatives, along with the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), as complete failures in the district.

The Lotha Hoho, through its chairman Mhondamo Ovung and general secretary Tsupon Murry, has called on the Enquiry Committee to thoroughly assess the actual status of the projects on the ground and prepare its report based on the true implementation reality.
