Lotha Language Day to be observed on May 1

Wokha, January 30 (MExN): The Lotha Academy has announced the establishment of May 1 as Lotha Language Day, a new initiative aimed at celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage of the Lotha language.

The decision follows the success of the Lotha Language Feast held on May 4, 2024, in Wokha, which saw over a thousand attendees. The overwhelming response to the event highlighted the significant impact such cultural celebrations can have on the community.

Fr. Abraham, President of the Lotha Academy, expressed the hope that the observance of Lotha Language Day would not only enhance linguistic knowledge but also foster a deeper appreciation of Lotha culture. "In celebrating Lotha Language Day, our hope is that a good knowledge of the language will help improve communication skills, open avenues to a deeper understanding of Lotha culture and the world around us," he said.

The Lotha Academy has called on Lotha Nagas worldwide to take part in the observance, which will include a range of activities aimed at language learning and preservation. These activities may include food, music, storytelling, language quizzes, reading exercises, and learning the names of local plants, places, and more. Schools, churches, peer groups, and civil societies have all been encouraged to participate creatively in marking the day.
