Lotha Tokhü Emong festival enters third day in Wokha

Glimpses from Day-III of the Tokhü Emong celebration at the Local Ground Wokha on November  4.

The celebration of Tokhü Emong, the premier festival of the Lotha Nagas continued on November 4 at Local Ground, Wokha, featuring folk songs, dances, various group performances and individual competitions.

On the third day, Senior Advocate Orenvungo Humtsoe highlighted that the Lotha people are considered one of the advanced tribes with rich cultural practices.

He expressed his joy in celebrating the festival, which combines traditional music, art and indigenous games and said the goal is to revive traditional Lotha culture and instill ancestral practices among the younger generation.

He emphasised the importance of preserving the mother tongue, as the present generation appears to be losing touch with their traditions.

As the legal advisor to Lotha Hoho and the convener of Tokhü Emong 2023, Humtsoe also noted that language, traditional attire, and cultural practices represent the identity of the Naga tribe.

He also urged each indivitual to prioritise the revival of their culture.

Humtsoe officially opened the Lotha cultural competitions during the event. The day-long activities included Lotha folk songs, warrior dances, display of Lotha cultivation practices by the Lotha Students' Union, yodeling, and solo singing competition.

The programme was chaired by Thungbeni Ngullie, President of Lotha Eloe Hoho, and concluded with a benediction by Loponi Ezung, a women leader from Longsa Baptist Church.
