Loyem Memorial Football Championship underway

Tuensang, October 12 (DIPR): Loyem Memorial Senior Soccer Open Championship 2016 began on October 12 at the Parade Ground Tuensang with Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Guest at the inaugural programme.   C.M. Chang, MLA was also present in the function. The tournament is being organized by Confederation of Chang Students Union with the theme ‘aspire, inspire, achieve’.   Ongmang Pastor of the Yungkuk Baptist Fellowship invoked God’s blessing while the Genesis presented special number.   The chief Guest, Neiphiu Rio congratulated the organizing committee and Confederation of Chang Students’ Union for organizing such event which would motivate the upcoming talents in sports sector.   He stressed on the importance of the football and its scope in our state. He also narrated the history of the football and how T. Ao brought recognition to Naga and advised the players to be committed and excelled in football. Nagas have talents in sports but we fail to avail the right opportunity, he added.   Narrating the life history of Loyem, he said he was committed in his service and in whose memorial this trophy has been organized. He urged the players to be committed, disciplined and bring laurels to our state. ‘Sports does not need status to play, irrespective of race or caste but who have talent can play and achieve’’ he added.   He also referred to the recent Olympic champions and how they have excelled and brought laurels to the nation. Basing on the theme, he advised all to play with spirit, exhibit talents and achieve in life.   The welcome address was delivered by Yanger, Convenor Organising Committee. The first match was played between Frontier FC Defending champion versus DEF FC and the match ended 3-1 in favour of Frontier FC.
