The 30th edition of the prestigious Loyem Memorial Trophy (LMT) under the theme “Goal for friendship” will kick start on November 5 at the newly constructed Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground in Tuensang.
Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister, Nagaland will grace the occasion as the special guest and will inaugurate the ground.
Going into its 30th year, the first edition of the tournament was played from 6th to 22nd October in the year 1992 with Friends Sporting Club emerging as the winner and 8th Assam Rifles coming behind second among the 14 participating teams.
This year’s edition will be the first ever that this coveted and one of the oldest tournaments in Nagaland will be played on Astro turf ground.
On the inaugural day, an exhibition match between Angami Sports Association and the Chang Sports Association, which in fact is one of a kind for the district will also be played.
The Media Cell of LMT informed that the entry for the inaugural day will be free and has further extended invitation to all the citizens of Tuensang town to witness this momentous day.
The teams participating in this edition are, Axios Football Club, Rili& Heli Football Club, Tuensang Police, Arising Sporting Club, Tuensang Village Sports Foundation, Son Kuk Laang Society Noksen Town, Tuensang Village Sports Foundation (B), Auyang Football Club, Evening Stars Football Club, Mevie Football Club, Shanen Football Club and Huilen High School B Football Club.
However, the defending champion Nyenshen Football Club will not participate this year after winning the cup consecutively for three years.
The league matches will start from October 7.

Runners – up – Rs 1,20,000/-
Semi – finalists – Rs 25,000/- each
Quarter – finalists – Rs 5000/- each
Golden boot – Rs 10,000/-
Golden ball – Rs 10,000/-
