Even as no nominations were filed till date for the forthcoming Lok Sabha bye-elections in Nagaland scheduled for May 28, the opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) has decided to field former Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism, C Apok Jamir for the polls. The process of filing nominations began on May 3. Talking to a section of the media here today, Nagaland Commissioner, M Patton confirmed that no nominations were filed till today. The last date of nominations has been fixed on May 10.
Sources meanwhile informed that the NPF made the decision to field C Apok Jamir as the party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha polls today. The official ticket distribution ceremony has been scheduled on May 9 at the NPF Central Office, Kohima at 10:30am.
Meanwhile, the Janata Dal United has also decided to field a candidate for the bye-election to the Lok Sabha. The JD(U) in a press release said that it will contest the election with the same manifesto that was released during the recently concluded general election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Sources at BJP informed that the Party will make way for its PDA alliance partner NDPP, to contest the upcoming election. Three names from NDPP were doing rounds, but none could be officially confirmed.
