Kohima, May 14 (MExN): Tokheho Yepthomi of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party with Globe symbol and C Apok Jamir of Naga People's Front with Cock symbol will have a straight contest on May 28 for the bye-election to lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland. With none withdrawing their candidatures on the last day of withdrawal, each candidate was allotted the respective party symbols, the Commissioner & Returning Officer, Nagaland, Motsuthung Patton, IAS informed today. The lone Lok Sabha seat which fell vacant after the present chief minister, Neiphiu Rio resigned to contest the General Assembly.
Meanwhile, Patton informed that counting will take place in all the AROs' office on May 31. However, final tabulation of result shall take place at the Commissioner's office, Nagaland after getting results from all the AROs in the districts. The Election Commission of India has also authorised DC Kohima as the Nodal officer for filing of election related expenses of all the candidates, he added.
According to a DIPR report, General Observer, Dr. J. Ravishankar, IAS urged all the political parties and stakeholders to maintain free and fair elections and to abide by the Commission's guidelines. Expenditure Observers said that all political parties have to come with their expenditure statement and Rs 75 lakhs is the maximum limit for a candidate. All expenses incurred by the candidates will be examined three times by the observers.
