Dimapur: The Lotha Students Union (LSU) has clarified its stand on the demand relating to the Wokha-Merapani Road and insufficient power supply.

The LSU in a formal release stated that regarding the issue of Wokha-Merapani Road, it had decided to wait till September 30 basing on the Nagaland Government’s assurance of positive reply.

On the other hand, the union, after taking ‘100% support’ and endorsement from the Lotha Public on September 6 general meeting at Wokha Town, had decided to intensify and go ahead with its second phase of agitation “from any moment now through Democratic means” if the Government failed to meet the demands of the Union immediately. The union reminded the Government that the Union, with the full backing and support of the Public, was ever ready ‘mentally and physically’ to go to any extent until its objectives were fulfilled. It demanded immediate restoration of the collapsed Tower along the Wokha-Doyang road and supply of Power to whole Wokha District from Doyang Hydro Electro Project.

The L.S.U also stated that the 75MW power project lay “in the Heart of Wokha District whereas, the people of Wokha District lives under darkness”.

The LSU questioned why the Nagaland Government was neglecting the District on the pretext of “this and that reasons” while accusing the previous Governments as well as the present government for deceitfully undermining and neglecting the aspiration as well as depriving the share due to the said District.

“The government must realize that these wealth and the problems are the assets and the problems of the Government of Nagaland primarily and for the people of the District secondarily” it stated.

The LSU appealed all sections of the Lotha Public to prepare to “fight for our due share and to face any eventuality under any circumstances until our just objectives is being realized.
