WOKHA, AUGUST 25 (MExN): The Lotha Students’ Union has condemned the physical assault on a pastor allegedly by a cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango) group on August 24 at Naukhati town.
According to a press statement issued by the LSU, the victim, Rhanlamo Kikon, Pastor, Yanpha Baptist Church was brutally assaulted by the NSCN-K (Khango) cadre. It alleged that the attack was “deliberate and premeditated attack involving a point blank pistol firing with the explicit intend of murder, without any indefinite reason.”
Condemning such abhorrent act, the LSU said such deeds not only violates the fundamental rights and dignity of the victim but also reflects a grave disregard for the well-being of a spiritual leader. “Every individual deserves to live in an environment free from fear, exploitation and harm and any form of abuse against one is utterly reprehensive,” it went on to state.
The LSU has demanded to the concerned authorities to take the issue on a serious note and award befitting punishment to the culprit at the earliest. Additionally, measures must be put in place to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, it added.
It also demanded that the NSCN-K (Khango) condemn the barbaric act and enforce policy to eradicate such heinous deeds by a cadre in the name of the government.
Meanwhile, the Yanpha Village Council and Yanpha Baptist Church filed an FIR at Niuland Police Station against one Akhevi of Keyazhu village of NSCN-K (Khango) for assaulting and attempt to murder against Rhanlamo Kikon, Pastor of Yanpha Baptist Church at Naukhati town on August 24 around 4 PM without any rhyme or reason while coming from Dimapur to Yanpha village.
