Lui-Ngai-Ni to boost Hunphun as tourist destination

Imphal, February 12 (NNN): All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has conveyed greetings to the Nagas in the present state of Manipur on the auspicious seed sowing Lui-Ngai-Ni, the seed sowing festival. The festival is slated to be held on Feb 15 next in Hunphun (formerly Ukhrul) and the AMTU has pitched for the district to be developed as a tourist hotspot.
AMTU general secretary Romeo Bungdon sent greetings to the Nagas of Manipur on the occasion of LUI-NGAI-NI celebration, the sole Naga seed sowing festival.  The tribal body solicited the blessings of God for a bumper harvest laced with peace and social harmony through the spirit of the festival.
“May the Almighty God bless through this festive occasion so that they all may be able to sow various productive seeds to reap bumper crops with surplus to refill their economic prosperity,” it said. He also hoped that the seeds of peace and social harmony will be sowed so that there will be a flavor of temperance so that immediate neighbors may assimilate and share the reaps of generosity.  Pitching strongly for the development of Hunphun — with its unique topography, an extension of the great Himalaya and a picturesque landscape — as a significant tourist destination, it said the scenic district and headquarters has the potential to match popular tourist destinations like Shimla, Mousoorie, Sikkim, Bhutan, Arunachal and Darjeeling in terms of tourist footfall given the attractions such as Siroi Lily, the turf of sun lily, Khankhui cave and the Marble Cave in Hundung/Hunphung at MOVA hill just nearby National Highway 150.  “The beauty of the Marble Cave can be ascertained only after seeing it practically as it is amazingly engraved by its natural form of quartzite semi precious stones which indeed is fascinating with overhanging crystals at the dome shaped marble ceiling,” it said.  AMTU expressed its conviction that the development of tourism industry in Hunphun will proportionately meaningfully engage educated youths.
He proposed that these few spots be developed and promoted in the list of World Heritage under UNESCO. The cultural heritage of the people are bountiful too with varieties of fine arts,  artifacts and historical events of pre-Christian era as depicted to the first missionary in the State Reverend William Pettigrew and the sites of World War episodes.
In order to facilitate the boom in the industry, it suggested creation of infrastructure such as mounting cables between district headquarters and Siroi, a distance of approximately six kilometers, which will shorten the distance of transportation and attract massive tourists both Nagas, Indians and other foreigners.
