‘Luis Trio’, the Delhi-based jazz band who are on a maiden tour in the North East Region performed to a select but appreciative audience here at Hope Centre for Excellence on Saturday night.
With Frenchman Loic Sanlaville on guitar, Sonic Shori on bass and Aditya Dutta on drums, the three-member band kicked off the night with their original composition ‘Unique’ followed by other numbers. In between the act, local female jazz singer Roni joined the band and sang two songs including the all-time jazz song ‘Cry me a river.’
Formed in 2011 by French musician Loic Sanlaville, Luis Trio originally set in jazz elements has over the years grown to acquire its own unique style and music with a hip hop sound. The band uses elements of different music set on original compositions by Loic.
The band’s frontman moved to India five years and his love for Hinduustani sounds mixed with his Frenchness is reflected in the eclectic music. After Dimapur, the band’s iterinery includes Kohima, Shillong and Kolkata.
Earlier, popular local rock band ‘Lords of the Rock’ who performed the opening act warmed up the audience with a couple of their original songs including ‘What we’re looking for’ and a splendid rendition of the Foreigner’s hit single ‘I wanna know what love is.’
