BJP Nagaland State unit leaders including deputy chief minister, Y Patton, and State BJP president and minister for Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, gave a clarion call to party workers make “cleanliness a lifestyle.”
Addressing party workers at the ‘Sankalp Yatra’ to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi-cum – Article 370 Sampark Abhiyan & Jan Jagaran Abhiyan organized by the State BJP at Town Hall on Wednesday, the deputy chief minister said the party workers should make it a mission to educate the people on the importance of cleanliness.
Patton said the 12 BJP legislators in the state have adopted a village each, and this is for the first time in the country that BJP legislators adopted villages. He said even the central BJP leaders were highly appreciative of this initiative. Patton said coinciding with the 4-month long Sankalp Yatra, all the 12 BJP lawmakers must make it a point to visit the adopted villages within the month of October. He appealed to the party legislators to not only initiate developmental programmes in the adopted villages but also to create awareness among the villagers on the need to maintain clean environment and encourage tree plantation.
State BJP president, Temjen Imna Along said the party workers must set the trend to make cleanliness a lifestyle. “It should be our aspiration to make Nagaland a golden Nagaland and beautiful State…It is our collective responsibility to make ‘Swachh Nagaland’”, Along said.
He also exhorted party workers to go to every nook and corner of the state and inform the masses about the various welfare schemes and developmental programmes undertaken by the BJP government in the Centre.
Along also said the BJP party workers and members should take pride in that they belong to the largest political party in the world with more than 70 crores members in the country. He said in Nagaland too, the BJP has becomes the single largest political party in terms of primary membership, which has crossed 3.20 lakhs.
Minister PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, also stressed on Swachh Bharat mission and reminded party workers of Mahatma Gandhi’s quote “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a clean and healthy country has won international recognition including the “Global Goalkeeper’ award.
Advisor, Power, Tovihoto Ayemi, said it is the responsibility of all party leaders and workers to reach out to the people and explain to them abrogation of Article 370 and also to educate the people on the teachings Mahatma Gandhi, especially his advocacy for cleanliness.
BJP State vice-president, Hurui Zeliang and State general secretary, Jaangsillung Gonmei, also enlightened the party workers on Sampark Abhiyan & Jan Jagaran Abhiyan.
Earlier, BJP Dimapur district president, L Bendang Ao delivered welcome address and Satte secretary and convenor, Sampark Abhiyan, Khevishe Sema, chaired the programme. State Minority president and co-convenor, Jan Jagaran Abhiyan, Rajiv Jha, proposed vote of thanks.
