Mangmetong Students' Union Mokokchung celebrated its platinum jubilee with Imkong L Imchen, MLA & Advisor, Information & Public Relation and Water Conservation as the guest of honor and Imnazulu Jamir, Associate Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo as the theme speaker of the jubilee celebration at Town Hall, Mokokchung.
In his speech, Imkong L Imchen encouraged the people of Mangmetong village to vow to return to the basics of education. He urged the students to pursue an unfeigned education. He also exhorted the students to be hardworking, courageous, and unwaveringly honest in their transactions.
Theme speaker, Imnazulu, Associate Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo, in his talk, focused on the theme “Tsungchi Shisaluyimer” roughly translated as “Authentic Student.” In a world with plenty of opportunities and individualization, he said society, individuals or anyone through education should get their perspective right in attitude and not in belief. He said one should have the ability of providing a clinical solution to critical thinking, accentuating further on authenticity. He also stressed that vision and goal-oriented individual or society is the need of the present time.
Further, he added that a revival is needed in the definition of new work ethics. The society today defines the status of a person with the position of a job one holds. He, however, pointed out that status of a person should rather be defined by the service one provides.
Earlier, jubilee greetings were conveyed by Mangmetong Senso Telongjem president Lanutoba Imchen, Ongpangkong Students' Conference president Limatongzuk and Mangmetong Students' Union president Tinuyangba Jamir. Jubilee souvenir was unveiled by Imkong L Imchen, MLA. The Mangmetong Students' Union Mokokchung was established in the year, 1948.
