Mani speaks out against AR conduct in LS

New Delhi: Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Mani Charenamai has urged the Home Ministry to pass strict instructions to personnel of the Assam Rifles personnel operating in Tamenglong district in Manipur to stop pestering commuters travelling on buses along National Highway 39. The MP has alleged that personnel of the 35 Assam Rifles had been meting out untold hardship to passengers aboard buses traversing along the said route. According to him, the defence personnel in particular harassed young boys and girls on suspicion of being NSCN cadres. 

In another development, the MP has appealed to the Home Minister to undertake necessary action so as to ascertain if there was any organized plan to attack the Naga girls who were recently assaulted in Mumbai. Special mention with regard to this was made by the MP in the Lok Sabha today. While urging the Minister to punish the accused in the case, Mani has asked for the payment of ex-gratia to the victims’ families.

It may be mentioned that the recent assault on two Naga girls in Mumbai by a person by the name of Ujair Patel resulted in the fatality of one of the girls while the other was injured.
