Manipur: 1096 samples tested in COVID-19 labs till date

Swab samples of a total of 231 individuals were tested on Sunday to take the cumulative number of samples tested for COVID-19 in Manipur to 1096 till date.

 

It can be mentioned here that two individuals were tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur but they got cured already from the disease in Manipur.

 

Meanwhile, of the 231 samples, 122 samples were tested at the VRDL of RIMS while the remaining 109 at JNIMS’s VRDL (Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory), the source said. Only the two labs are approved for testing the new coronavirus by the Centre in the state.

 

RIMS’s VRDL has tested 560 samples while the remaining 109 samples at JNIMS’s VRDL.

 

Earlier, fifteen swab samples from the state were tested at NIV Pune where the state used to send before the two labs in the state were approved by the Centre.

 

Meanwhile, a total 1134 individuals who recently returned to the state from various places of the country are now put at government designated quarantine centres.

 

All of them would be staying at the institutional quarantine centres for 14 days even though they were tested negative for the virus as resolved by State Consultative Committee for COVID-19.

 

A meeting of the committee held on Saturday discussed the matter of arrival of stranded people of the state.

 

The meeting chaired by chief minister N Biren Singh resolved to undergo each and every person arriving in the state by train will undergo compulsory quarantine for 14 days at government and community quarantine centres.

 

Besides twice medical screening at Jiribam railway station on their arrival, the returnees will again screen at destinations in their respective home districts.

 

All the returnees by train would be subjected to RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing as per ICMR protocol, the meeting resolved.

 

It can be mentioned here that here are nine entry points to the state and a total of 2,05,151 individuals have so far been screened for the virus in the state.
