Manipur assembly broach death case

Imphal | March 18 : The case of the death of a family of four Manipur citizens in Nagaland’s Dimapur district was raised in the Manipur Assembly today. Opposition lawmakers O Joy Singh and Dr Ng Bijoy sought clarification on the “progress of the case” from the government bench.
One Md Feroj Khan aka Amu, 35, originally from Khomidok Ipum Mapan under Imphal East district of Manipur, ran an electronic repairing centre and was residing in Nichu gate under Chumukedima police station of Dimapur in Nagaland. Fire broke out in his house on the intervening night of March 6-7 last. His wife Rejanu, 40, and two daughters Rajia Begum, 14, and Tammana, 9, were killed in the fire.
O Joy claimed that the Nagaland government and police department have failed to “shed lights on the cause.” The Manipuri politician even claimed that ‘prima facie of the incident indicates that it was not an accident but a clear case of homicide and the guilty must be brought to book’.
He also stated that allowing the bodies to be brought home without necessary forensic study was a gross negligence on the part of the Nagaland government and the police of Nagaland.
He went on to suggest that because the situation warrants getting to the root of the case, the bodies may be exhumed from the grave and autopsy done on them. Locals of incident site have been suspecting foul play right from the initial stage by maintaining that the victim family were allegedly locked from outside before being set ablaze, claimed MLA Ng Bijoy.
Ng Bijoy appealed to the chief minister of Manipur to mount pressure on his counterpart in Nagaland. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that the state government had sent a telegraphic message to his counterpart in Nagaland immediately following the incident.
Certain things related to the case have proved hindrance for the government to move forward, Ibobi said, adding that if anybody is found guilty the person shall be handed out a befitting punishment.
