A senior BJP MLA in Manipur on Wednesday ruled out possibility leadership change in the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur.

“Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been chosen as leader of the party by the central leaders,” BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte said while addressing reporters at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday. He added that he was told by some MLAs of his own party that there will be change of leadership in the coalition government in the wake of camping of dissident MLAs lobbying central leaders of the party for leadership change. Since then he was trying to confirm it from the central leaders, he also said. For the time being, he could not confirm the matter of replacing N Biren Singh as chief minister of the state, Valte added.

However, “It is realised that there is no possibility of leadership change,” he claimed. The MLA further claimed that as a chief minister of the state Biren has been performing well.

He then said that the economic growth, infrastructure development and revenue collection were remarkably achieved under the leadership the incumbent chief minister.

"He has done great job in these sectors within a short span of his term as chief minister of the state," Valte also claimed.

“It will be at the best interest of the party and the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur to fully support and cooperate with the leadership of the N Biren Singh. It will make his hand strong to serve the state with more energy,” Valte also said.

“I have full confidence in the wisdom of the central leaders of the BJP and will go by the decision of the party leaders as a loyal member of the party,” he said, declaring his open support to the incumbent chief minister.

He then claimed that the central leaders of the party have full confidence in the leadership of Biren.
