IMPHAL | October 12

With tension running high after the poll-related violent clash on Monday, section 2 of section 144 of CrPC has been promulgated in three villages in Andro Assembly constituency of Imphal East district.

The order banned assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of firearms, sticks, stones, weapons or objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons.

This prohibitory order at the three villages –Yambem Makha Leikai, Yambem Mayai Leikai and Yambem Mathak Leikai - will be effective for two months with effect from 6:00 am of October 12, the order issued by Imphal East district magistrate stated.

The prohibitory order came up barely a day after a violent clash between workers and supporters of two intending candidates in Andro AC left three people with bullet injuries.

After the incident, the prevailing situation in the area has become volatile, Imphal East SP stated in his report to the district magistrate.

There is a likelihood of recurring similar incidents in the area that may cause serious breach of peace and disturbances of the public tranquility that will endanger human lives and properties in the area, the order observed.
