Manipur Deputy Speaker tests positive for COVID-19

Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, K Robindro became the fifth among the Manipur legislators infected by COVID-19.

Robindro on Sunday announced on social media that he was tested COVID-19 positive. He is now in home isolation.

He is the fifth among the state legislators infected since the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the state. Congress legislator, Md Fajur Rehman was the first to be infected by the deadly virus. BJP legislators –former Social Welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen and Works minister Th Bishwajit – had recovered from the disease while chief minister N Biren who is also contracted with the virus is currently on home isolation. The chief minister tested positive for the virus on November 15.

Meanwhile, 382 fresh infections of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours in Manipur. This update has pushed Manipur’s total COVID-19 positive cases to 23,400 on Sunday.

The COVID-19 related death toll in the state has also risen to 236 after three deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 cases included 20,353 people who have recovered from the disease.

The recovered tally included 205 patients who were discharged today after recovering from the disease. The recovered patients included 127 persons on home isolation.

A total of 3,146 active cases of COVID-19 are being treated at various Covid care centres across the state. The recovery rate of the state is 85.54%.

As per a press release of the COVID-19 Common Control Room, of the 306 fresh positive cases reported from the general population, 23 of them were detected during the targeted testing in Lilong and Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituencies where by-elections were held amid bad time of COVID-19.
