 Politicians and social workers, civil society organisations, NGOs and groups of individuals continued to distribute essential commodities free of cost in Imphal localities.

 

An encouraging one among them is witnessed when local girls in various localities extend help in kinds to the needy families.

 

These groups of girls procured essential goods in bulk with the money they collected during the Yaoshang festival for organising Thabal Chongba (a Meitei traditional dance form) but did not organise after government imposed restriction to mass gatherings due to COVID-19 outbreak.

 

On Sunday, a group of girls distributed essential goods to the households within ward no. 2 of Top Dusara Gram Panchayat, Imphal East district.

 

While distributing the goods, the girls gave awareness on the dreaded COVID-19.

 

They distributed one packet each of dry or fermented fish locally called Ngari (250 gram), edible oil (half litre and papad to a total of 170 households. The goods they distributed on Sunday worth around Rs 35,000.

 

As told by the girls, the items were bought with the money they had collected for organising Thabal Chongba during Yaoshang festival but could not organise after the state government imposed ban on mass gatherings as part of measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the state.

 

The girls assured that they are ready for all possible assistance to the local residents in times of hardship and support to the lockdown being imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state. They further prayed for the speedy recovery of the two COVID-19 patients of the state.
