Manipur: Hand grenade found planted in Bishnupur

Imphal, August 8 (NNN): Amidst the tightened security measures being taken up in Manipur in connection with upcoming Independence Day celebration, a hand grenade was found planted on the roadside in Bishnupur’s Nambol area. The Chinese made hand grenade was found planted near a bridge on the road side at Nambol Kamong Leikai under Nambol police station of the district. Morning joggers who discovered the bomb informed the police who immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area until experts from the state police bomb detection and disposal squad defused it safely. The detection of the bomb came amidst the stepping up security measures across the state in connection with the celebration of country’s Independence Day  on August 15. As part of the security measures, police have been conducting operations and verification exercises at various parts of the state, particularly in valley districts. The police are carrying out mopping operations at sensitive areas besides conducting random frisking and checking along the roads leading to the state capital.
