Manipur holds first ever cabinet meeting in hills

Newmai News Network Churachandpur | July 14   The Biren Singh led BJP government in Manipur has created history today by holding a Cabinet meeting outside the state capital Imphal for the first time.   As decided earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his council of ministers landed at the hill town of Churachandpur district in south Manipur this morning and held the cabinet meeting.   As they reached the town which is located 60 km south of Imphal, Chief Minister Biren and his cabinet ministers were accorded a warm welcome by large number of people. Midway, the CM and his entourage stopped at Kangvai and Molnom to accept the welcome accorded to him by the villagers, civil society organisations, Iocal clubs, students and women bodies.   Scores of people including school children, women from various villages stood in long lines on both sides of the road to welcome the Chief Minister and his council of ministers from Kangvai to Churachandpur district headquarters.   Later, the Chief Minister along with his council of ministers and parliamentary secretaries were felicitated by the district administration and people of Churachandpur at District Training Centre, Churachandpur headquarters.   Speaking on the occasion, Biren termed it a “historic day” as the first-ever cabinet meeting outside of Imphal was being held in Churachandpur district.   Stating that his government was committed to uplift the hill areas of the State, he insisted that the holding of the cabinet meeting in Churachandpur was just the beginning. Since the first day, the slogan of the new government is "Go to the Hills", he stated before adding, extra care and priority would be given for the development of the hill districts of the State.   Biren further informed that the government would not only discuss the problems and grievances faced by the people but will also discuss and review the developmental programmes undertaken in Churachandpur district with the district administration, civil society organisations and local leaders.   During the felicitation programme, the Chief Minister handed over the ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs each to the family members of Thangkholam Hanghal and Mangtinlam Samte. The two persons drowned in Imphal River in last month’s flash floods at W. Zoujang, Sangaikot sub division, Churachandpur district.   The Chief Minister also distributed 'emergency medical kit' to all the district level officers and police of the Churachandpur district.   Later, Biren along with his council of ministers, the Chief Secretary and the DGP planted various trees on the premises of District Training Centre, Churachandpur.   The various civil society organisations of the district present during the programme also submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister.
