Left parties in Manipur announced commencement of their week-long protest on Thursday against BJP-led government as part of the nationwide agitation.

The commencement of the week-long protest which will continue till October 16 was announced during a joint meeting of the leaders of Left parties, comprising CPI, CPI(M), AIFB and RSP, in Imphal’s Irawat Bhavan.

Manipur CPI leader, L Sotinkumar alleged that BJP, the party leading the government at the Centre as well as in the state of Manipur, had not translated any of the promises it had made during the elections. He also alleged that "misgovernance" of the BJP-led government at the Centre has made the weaker section of the society suffer.

According to the CPI leader, the financial position of the country has worsened under the BJP-led government.

While the people, particularly poor and labour class people, are suffering to the limit of their woes, the BJP-led government is dreaming of converting the country into a Hindu nation, the CPI leader further alleged.

The left parties will expose the "misgovernance" of the BJP-led government at the Centre as well as in the state during the week-long protest, the state CPI leader asserted.

During the series of protest to be launched during the week, the Left parties will also demand hiking of minimum wages of labourers.

Fixing of honorarium of VDF (Village Defence Force) and Home Guard personnel above the minimum wage will also be demanded during the protest, he added.
